ABARE-BRS Home

Welcome to the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics – Bureau of Rural Sciences (ABARE–BRS).

The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics – Bureau of Rural Sciences (ABARE–BRS) is a research bureau within the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. We provide professionally independent, world-class research, analysis and advice to inform decision-makers on current and future policy challenges affecting Australia's primary industries.

Our capabilities in multi-disciplinary research and analysis span the fields of economics, science and social science covering the agriculture, fisheries, forestry, food, resources and energy sectors.

ABARE–BRS was formed on 1 July 2010 as a merger of the Australian Bureau of Agriculture and Resource Economics (ABARE) and the Bureau of Rural Sciences (BRS).

The merge has enabled the bureau to provide an integrated research offering, to allow evidence-based policy making informed by both science and economic analysis and advice.
